Coventry Rugby Club were beaten at home by Fylde at the Butts Park Arena.
The visitors took a 12th minute lead through a Brennand try and added to that nine minutes later with a Johnson penalty.
Cov got on the scoreboard with a 26th minute Jones penalty but Flyde went further ahead thanks to Mayer going over for a try that Johnson converted in the 32nd minute and a Rawling try six minutes later which Johnson again converted.
Cov's first try of the game came in the 46th minute through MacBurnie and was converted by Jones but Mayer scored with a 57th minute try that Johnson converted and Johnson kicked over for the extra point when Brennand ran in a try on the hour mark.
Cov came back with a 63rd minute Hope try that Jones converted and a try for Oliver in the 79th minute, which Jones also converted but it was not enough to stop Cov going down to a 24-36 defeat.
