William Clarke of Drapac Cycling Team has taken the prologue as the 62nd Jayco Sun Herald Tour got underway in Melbourne, Australia.

A race that used to be the opening race of the season, has for the last couple of years been put back to February to avoid the excessive heat of the Australian summer and it was one that attracted some big teams including a Great Brijtain team led by former Team Sky rider Josh Edmondson.

At 6.15pm local time, the 2.1km KordaMentha Real Estate Prologue from   Federation Square to South Banks got underway with Robert Power of the Jayco AIS U23 team the first down the ramp, followed forty five seconds later by British rider Chris Lawless.

Power set the time to beat of  2:47.38 which only lasted until Lawless came home five seconds quicker.

Joe Cooper (Avanti), Sam Bewley (Orica-GreenEdge) and Brenton Jones of Drapac went even quicker before Caleb Ewan of Orica Green Edge finished in 2:36.42.

Will Clarke of Drapac has put in a storming ride and he knocked a second off Ewen's time to take the prologue victory and put himself in the leader's jersey ahead of the 152km stage from Mount Macedon to Bendigo.
