Omega Pharma Quick Step's Tom Boonen retained his title when he won the Heistsepijl race in Belgium on Saturday evening.

The race worth 5,020 euros to the winner, started in Heist Op Den Berg, east of Antwerp with ten seventeen kilometres laps which take in the Den Hag climb.

There was a twenty man breakaway well clear in Heist which included the 2013 race winner Tom Boonen and some of Omega Pharma Quick Step team mates who were one of three World Tour teams competing in the race.

This break was not troubled and Boonen took the win ahead of Jonas Vangenechten and Kenny Dehaes.

The group led the race after the 2nd lap out of 17, which were 10 kilometers each," Sport Director Wilfried Peeters said to his team's website. "Out of the 20 riders we had Nikolas Maes, Julien Vermote, Niki Terpstra, Guillaume Van Keirsbulck, and Tom. They controlled the race until the end. In the final there was a small cobbled climb. Niki did a geat job preparing Tom for the sprint, and he was able to win out of a breakaway for the second consecutive year. it was a perfectly executed race for the team and we're happy with this victory."
