Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Club will learn of their IIHF Continental Cup opponents on Saturday.

The draw takes place in Budapest in Hungary and this year's competition will be the fifth time that the Blaze have been involved.

“It’s very exciting for the club and we know our supporters are desperate to know where we will be going and who we will be playing,” said Buxton to the Blaze website.

“It’s not a random draw as such as there is usually a degree of regionalisation of the groups and an element of seeding based on rankings and it also depends on which teams apply to host rounds of the competition.

“We are most likely to enter the competition in the second round which would be from 23rd to 25th October but we have no idea where we will be going or who the other three teams in our group will be. All we know is that they will be three good sides from around the continent, that we are going to have three tough games in three days and that only one of us can get through to the next round. It’s going to be a terrific event wherever we are and whoever we are against.

“With the winners of the competition now qualifying for a place in the Champions Hockey League, clubs throughout Europe are very focused on doing well in the Continental Cup. There will be a lot of very good teams taking part chasing that prize which makes for a fantastic competition for clubs, players and fans.”
