Alex Dowsett The New British Time Trial Champion

Alex Doswett is the new British Time Trial Champion after coasting to victory in the National Championships held by British Cycling.

The Cadwell Park motor cycling circuit in Lincolnshire was the location for the 45 mile time trial over three laps.

Ashley Cox set the early time to beat of 1.05.52.70 before Lloyd Chapman finished 9.68 seconds quicker in 1.05.43.02 and Ryan Perry finished in 1.04.02.28.

Alex Dowsett, the former World Hour record holder and the favourite due to Geraint Thomas and Sir Bradley Wiggins opting not to take part in order to prepare for other races.

The Movistar rider who was 59th down the ramp was burning up the road as Edmund Bradbury finished in 1.03.42.25 to take over the lead.

Dowsett got past Matt Botterill who had gone down the ramp four minutes ahead of the rider from Essex, who was riding what former British cyclist Rob Hayles described as a lap of honour and flew home in 1.00.11.13 to take the British title for the fourth time to equal the record set by Stuart Dangerfield.

The British elite women's time trial champion is Hayley Simmonds with Scott Davies retaining his U23 title.
