2014 Tour De France Route Unveiled

The route for the 101st edition of the world's greatest cycle race - The Tour De France was unveiled in Paris this morning.

 

Leeds will host the Grand Depart on Saturday July 5th with a 191km stage for the sprinters finishing in Harrogate. Then, it is straight into the climbs with the second stage which is 198kms long from York to Sheffield.

 

Moving south and the sprinters will be tests on a 159km stage from  Cambridge to The Mall in London

 

With the riders, the caravan and everyone involved in this wonderful spectacle making it over or under the Channel, stage four starts on Le Torquet Paris with a 164km stage to Lille.

 

The race moves into Belgium in order to commemorate the First World War on a 156km stage from Ypres in Belgium to Arenberg in France which will subject the riders to nine sections of pave cobbles.

 

The Alps are next with three mountain top finishes at the ski stations of La Planches des Belles Filles (Stage 10), Chamrousse (Stage 13) and Risoul (Stage 14) and then it’s the Pyrenees for two more ski station finishes at Plat d’Adet (stage 17) and Hautacam (stage 18) after taking in the Col du Tourmalet.

 

There is only one time trial in the 2014 race and that comes with a 54km individual time trial on stage twenty from Bergerac to Perigueux before the final run in to Paris on Sunday July 27th.
