Nuneaton Town have signed Shane Byrne.

Byrne was at Corby Town last season and is a former Leicester City and Bury player.

Speaking about his career to the Nuneaton Town website,Byrne said: "I joined Bury on loan from Leicester City, and then signed for them when my time at Leicester came to an end.

"Unfortunately I only played a few games as I had picked up glandular fever on a tour to Hong Kong with Leicester City.

"There is nothing you can take for that, apart from rest, and I missed almost two seasons due to that illness. Bury cancelled my contract and when I was read to play again, I joined Bray Wanderers, but after spending the previous few years in England, I was not enjoying being at home, and I wanted to come back to play in England.

"I played 48 times for Corby as we won the title on the last day in the winner takes all match with Poole.

"I had a really good season, and when I was offered the chance to join Boro, I was really keen to do so.

"Kevin and Chetts had tried to sign me for Ilkeston just after I agreed to join Corby, and I was not going to miss out again.

"Full time training will really help me improve my game further, I want to get back into the Football League, and this is a perfect move for me.

"I am a central midfielder, maybe you could describe me as a defensive midfielder. I like winning headers, winning tackles, breaking up the opposition's attacks and starting ours.

"I do not score many goals though, which is an area of my game I can look to improve too."
