Coventry United Ladies' Jade Brook felt it was a great result as United beat Queens Park Rangers 3-0 on Sunday at Bedworth United.

Jade Brook told Matty Roper: "It was a great result.

"We played some good football and we controlled the game. The three goals were very well taken and if we continue creating we should score plenty more.

"Overall, it was a solid team performance and we need to take this into next week's game and get another result."

After kicking off their Women's Premier League campaign with a routine 5-0 home win against West Ham last week, Coventry United Ladies were looking to make it two wins on the bounce as they faced QPR at The Oval on Sunday. Michael Foy named a strong lineup for the fixture and the girls were in confident mood ahead of the tie.

With the rain lashing down, the game got underway on a slick surface and both teams started confidently. United looked the more threatening going forward early on but it was Rangers who registered the first attempt on goal, although Jo Wilson could only blaze way wide from 20 yards.

The home side did continue to probe forward though and a Maz Gauntlett corner allowed Natasha Lynch to head wide from close range. After dealing with a couple of Coventry attacks, QPR went close up the other end on 13 minutes as a pinpoint corner  found Jean Sseninde but she fired narrowly over on the volley.

A golden opportunity was then given to Coventry on 15 minutes however as Dani Selmes was fouled in the box, the referee the pointed to the spot and Gauntlett stepped up confidently to slam home to make it 1-0. On the next attack United were inches away from another goal as Amber Hughes' teed up Selmes who struck the post from inside the area after some great play.

After opening the scoring, the home side really started to take control of the game as they passed around with real tidiness. More chances were created as Jade Brook fired wide from range before Hughes saw a driven effort well saved down low by Joanna Ayre. Rangers did continue to play some neat football themselves however and Wilson tested Sue Wood in the Coventry goal on 25 minutes but she responded excellently to handle well.

It was 2-0 to United just a minute later however as Gauntlett picked out Selmes with a wonderful corner and the striker headed in with real quality. QPR were battling away in the middle of the park but they couldn't stop United controlling possession of the ball. The away defence were resilient however in stopping Coventry attacks and chances were coming at a lesser rate now, Brook did manage to strike narrowly over from range but this turned out to be the final effort of the opening period.

Half-Time: Coventry United Ladies 2-0 Queens Park Rangers Ladies

As the referee blew his whistle to signal the start of the second period, both sides looked determined to have the better of the half. The first chance fell for the home side however as Gauntlett stole the ball in the Rangers area but she couldn't keep her effort on target as it flashed harmlessly wide.

It proved to be a fairly even opening spell though as both sides tussled for possession in central areas, no real chances were carved out as a consequence. Coventry soon began to take control of the ball again soon after as they looked for a third, although QPR's defence looked organised to thwart them.

The away side did have a great chance with 64 minutes played as Jo Wilson latched on to a loose ball, her low effort was saved brilliantly by Wood though as the 'keeper responded to the one-on-one situation expertly. Confidence seemed to rise throughout the QPR ranks following this chance and they began to knock the ball around efficiently, but the Coventry back four remained relatively untroubled.

United turned up the heat again soon after though and it was 3-0 on 71 minutes following a neat move, a sly ball from Gauntlett released Annabel Johnson and she finished sublimely in to the far corner off the woodwork. Some breathtaking football was now being played by the home side and the game was starting to open up but Rangers' defence were committed to keep the scoreline down.

The away side did enjoy some good spells themselves in the latter stages but they couldn't find a way through. The game did peter out a little as the quality started to go missing in parts, Wilson did fire wide again for QPR on 87 minutes and Hughes went close for the home side in stoppage time
but the final whistle was blown soon after to hand United another valuable 3 points.
