Super Downes Gives Sphinx The Win

Coventry Sphinx worked really hard to win their local derby against Coleshill Town 2-1.

The game on a cold but sunny afternoon started lively with loanee David Blenkinsopp having an eighth minute shot parried away before Brown headed at O'Neill at the other end.
 
Luke Downes played well in the midfield for Sphinx and drilled wide. Sphinx attacked again with the ball falling for Jackson Downie. The product of Sphinx's Youth team took the ball of Luke Downes and thumped in a shot which took a deflection and looped into the net to give Sphinx a fourteenth minute lead.
 
Luke Downes had a great run and shot saved four minutes later and Sphinx won a corner as both sides played some good passing.
 
Coleshill had a 35th minute free kick and then a corner which was cleared by Fletcher off the line. 
 
Blenkinsopp fired in a shot but in the 43rd minute, Coleshill drew level with a low shot from Shane Benjamin which crept home to send the sides in level at the break. 

Coleshil had a great chance in the 56th minute when Dan Rathbone, with an open goal at his mercy curled over, 

In the 73rd minute, Luke Downes delighted the Sphinx support when he got the ball outside the area and drove low into the net. 

Downes fired over and O'Neill made a stunning 83rd minute one handed save from Colbourne as both teams upped their work rate, ‎

Millgan drove across the face of the goal but Sphinx battled to end to record a deserved victory. ‎
