Coventry Sphinx are through to the Polymac Midland Alliance League Cup Final after a 2-1 aggregate victory over Causeway United.

Sphinx went to Amblecote, with a one goal lead and within the opening five minutes, that was eradicated as Matt Aston got on to a through ball from midfield and poked past Carl O'Neill.

The heads on the Sphinx travelling support went down but in the 14th minute, there was plenty to cheer when Terry Ward rose to head home a corner to restore Sphinx's advantage.

Causeway resorted to lumping the ball forward but with Terry Ward and Tom Muldoon in fine form, the Sphinx goal was rarely troubled.

Robbie Stevenson's 55th minute free kick was well palmed away by home keeper Todd Henderson and six minutes later, a long ball to Adam Kinder drew another save.

McSheffrey made changes bringing on Luke Phillips and Kelvin Phillips who both had the ball in the net and their goals chalked off.

Causeway United had their chances and six minutes from time, Tom Muldoon superbly headed off the line from a Chris Busby header.

But Sphinx who had been beaten in their last two league cup semi-finals, were not to be denied and clinched their place in the final on May 11th.
