Coventry Sphinx came back to win 4-3 after extra time in an FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round tie at Bewdley.
At Ribbesford Meadow on the banks of the River Severn, Sphinx went a goal down in 43 seconds when Sam Woodhouse was allowed to get round the Sphinx defence and slot past Farthing.

Six minutes later and Sphinx created their first chance through Dave Barnett who joined Luke Hopkins side from Bedworth United in midweek.

In the eighteenth minute, the Sphinx support, which amongst the 78 people in the ground were fuming as Barnett was seen to be clearly shoved over. Nothing was given by a whistle happy referee Mr Bell, who had a ding dong of a game and was calling Bewdley players by their nick names.
Jackson headed over in the 23rd minute but three minutes later and an attack from the West Midlands League side saw the ball go over to Ed Flory on the right hand side of the area and the winger scored with a simple tap-in.

Bishop curled over for the home side on the half hour mark and Cutting headed a Dainty cross wide ‎

Sphinx were back in the game in the 38th minute when Gio Dainty created space on the far side of the area to score with a low drive.

Sphinx, who had captain Ashley Jackson in excellent form, were far more positive at the start of the second half. Luke Downes fired over early on ‎and curled over from a Cutting ball in the 51st minute.

‎Sphinx won two corners in the 52nd minute before Luke Hopkins sent on Lewis Bishop, a former Republic Of Ireland U17 international, for Matty Taylor.

Barnett fired wide in the 57th minute as Sphinx started to threaten on the counter attack.

Barnett had a head‎er saved and in their next attack, the ball came down the right and there was Rickie Cutting to volley Sphinx level with thirty one minutes left.

Dainty headed over and in their next raid on goal. Sphinx won a 66th minute free kick. That came in and tAshley Jackson met the ball to head powerfully into the net.

Sphinx went looking for more goals and Luke Downes had a 77th minute shot deflected for ‎a corner.

Cutting continued to battle up front but in the 81st minute a foul by Wilks gave Bewdley a penalty.‎ After Ash Wilks had been harshly red-carded, Dan Flowers stepped up and scored to level the game at 3-3.

Chris Wilks sent a free kick not far wide in a game that was now a battle of fitness.

In the final minute, Mr Bell had to be over-ruled by his assistant over a corner to Bewdley as the game went into extra time.‎

In the first period of extra time, Tom Bishop shot wide before Bewdley won a 95th minute corner.

Flowers fired over before the referee blew the whistle eight seconds short of the fifteen.

Jackson joined the list of bookings as did Dainty by a referee who ended up giving charity decisions to cover a mistake in awarding a corner.

With four minutes remaining, Sphinx tore down the right and Lewis Bishop got in and slipped the ball past the keeper to send Sphinx through.‎
