Coventry Sphinx were beaten 1-0 in a their first pre-season game against Coventry Copsewood tonight at Sphinx Drive.

Danny McSheffrey and his assistants Lee Knibbs and Nigel Starkey, used the game to run an eye over all their players and fielded a different team in each of this game in front of a good crowd.

With players getting in their first game time since last season ended, the game was tight with neither side gaining any real ground in the opening forty five minutes.

Carl Nolan's side were the livelier early in the second half and had a goal ruled out on the hour mark for off-side. However, fiffteen minutes later, Copsewood attacked down the left flank and the ball was slid across to Micky Cutten to fire the ball high into the net from eight yards.

Scott Furlong pulled off a final save in the 83rd minute but Copsewood left with a 1-0 win.

Coventry Sphinx's next pre-season game is at home to Kenilworth on Tuesday.
