Coventry Sphinx were amongst the goals yet again as they beat Highgate United 6-2 in a Midland Alliance fixture.

Lee Knibbs side started brighly against a Highgate side which like Sphinx had won their last two matches.

In the second minute, the ball was in the net but Paul Hewitson's flag was correctly up after Chris Hayden had got on the end of Luke Williams cross the area drive.

A fifth minute free kick was hacked off the line by Mitchell before the visitors won two corners.

Sphinx attacked in the 12th minute down the left through Luke Williams and his cool finish from eight yards fired the blue boys ahead.

Boosted by the goal, Luke Williams beat the offside trap and flicked past the keeper from four yards in the 22nd minute.

Two minutes later and there was another goal for the Sphinx support to enjoy when Williams crossed and Tom Muldoon (pictured below) was at the far post to tap in.

Highgate were making a game of it and kept the Sphinx defence busy winning two more corners but three minutes before the half ended, Pavel Tomczek scored from inside the area for Coventry’s fourth goal..

Pav Tomczak who worked hard up front alongside Williams, did well to get into the area straight after the restart and hit a left footed shot, which Shaun Edwards pushed away for a corner.

Another corner followed in the 53rd minute and this time, the ball came out to Paul Saunders who crossed for Jamie McAteer to head home.

In the 58th minute, Terry Ward tried to head back to O'Neill but sent the ball past him to give Highgate some consolation.

That goal was added to in the 62nd minute when the visitors were awarded a penalty and former Barry Town player Ian Mitchell scored from the spot.

Edwards made a terrific point blank save from Williams as the striker went looking for the hat-trick he deserved.

With five minutes left, Arron Donaldson made a wonderful thirty-yard run before drilling past the keeper to give Sphinx a 6-2 win.
