New Sphinx Manager Unveiled

Danny McSheffrey has been appointed as the new manager of Coventry Sphinx Football Club.

Having been in charge of the clubs reserve team for the past 12 months, McSheffrey, 29, is seen as the right man to continue the progress made by outgoing manager Paul Charnley.

Having gained promotion to the Midland Alliance two seasons ago Charnley's young squad finished in a creditable 7th place this year and with the majority of the squad still only in their early twenty's, McSheffrey is confident in the squad's ability to keep progressing saying, "I'm excited by the challenge. Having worked closely with the players over the past year and having played alongside a lot of them I am fully aware of their capabilities. The talent in the squad is of a high standard and I am confident we can push on over the next couple of year's. Coventry Sphinx is a fantastic club with an excellent set up and I feel that with the excellent foundations laid by Paul (Charnley) and with a fresh direction we can take the club forward to new heights''

McSheffrey signed for Sphinx from Massey Ferguson in July 2001 having also played for Coventry Marconi and was quickly installed as Club Captain by manager Willie Knibbs, going on to make over 250 appearances for the club.

With two serious injuries hampering his fitness McSheffrey made the move into management last summer by taking charge of the reserve team and has been instrumental in the progress made by many of the youth team players through the reserve set up and into the first team during the current season, a factor which outgoing Paul Charnley paid tribute to saying, "Danny has been great to work with and his enthusiasm and knowledge of the club and this crop of players make him the ideal choice and I am delighted for him. I will still be around to help him whenever he needs me and the feedback Danny has had from the players has been really positive. He's a popular choice and I wish him and the players the very best for next season"

Chairman Neil Long said, "The quality of the applicants and the professionalism each of them showed during the interview process was fantastic. In the end it was a tough decision but having had 12 months experience managing within the current squad Danny has shown all the qualities that we are looking for and has a great desire to drive the team and Coventry Sphinx forward"
