Coventry Sphinx took their time but cruised through to an FA Cup tie against Nuneaton Griff or Stratford Town with a 5-0 victory at Lye Town.

Lee Knibbs made changes for this FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie from the team which had won at Tipton on Wednesday night.

Captain Terry Ward was back in the side which saw Sphinx in their new yellow and black away kit.

On a pleasant evening at Lye Meadow with the sounds of real ale festival and the smell of some wonderous beers wafting across the ground, where there was a larger crowd than the official figure of 134.

Sphinx attacked the West Midlands Regional League side from the start with a Jackson cross just missing Tomczak in the opening seconds and in the 13th minute, Jamie McAteer hooked over from a throw.

Having blocked a Nicholls shot from twenty yards, Sphinx won two corners.

Lye had their first real chance in the 25th minute when Scott Grehhard's shot went well wide of Carl O'Neil"s goal.

On the half hour mark, Liam Kay (pictured below) started a move which saw him cleverly find Luke Williams and then Pavel Tomczek on the left for a shot which the keeper pushed away.

Luke Williams drove wide and Sphinx won another corner before an influential  Kay shot wide from a 34th minute move he started.

In the 42nd minute, Tomczak held off two markers to find Jack Edwards for another shot wide of the goal.

Williams was unlucky not to get a penalty just before the interval when he was impeded when he shot.

Sphinx won two corners right at the start of the second half before Damian Whitcombe sent a long ranger wide.

On the hour mark, Tommy Harper dived to his left to push away a Kay shot and a minute later when ASHLEY JACKSON got inside the area and scored from close range.

The Sphinx support only had four minutes to wait for the next goal which came when JACK EDWARDS created space inside the area and his low shot went past the keepers right and into the net.

With Lye tiring, Sphinx went for the jugular. PAVEL TOMCZAK gave the keeper no chance with a shot on the turn. As Edwards had been Tomczek was replaced straight after his goal and they watched on as LUKE WILLIAMS created space on the left to hit a fourth.

In the 82nd minute, Liam Kay hit a shot from the edge off the area which deflected off the knee of JAMIE MCATEER and past the keeper and into the bottom corner for a 5-0 victory.
