Coventry City U18’s earned a 0-0 draw with Watford this morning at the Alan Higgs Centre.

This was a case of “After The Lord Mayor’s Show” for both sides in a tight dour match.

Greg Rioch’s side had the better of the chances in the opening half with skipper Nathan Cameron seeing his shot from an 11th minute corner deflected wide before Bond got down to save a Luke Bottomer volley ten minutes later.

In the 24th minute, Jacob Blackwell got into a good position on the right but his left drive failed to beat the visiting keeper.

Cameron, who again organised the Sky Blues defence well, failed to hit the target when he stroked wide from a Bilgrimana free kick and Jacob Blackwell’s 38th minute drive that went wide, were two good chances for City who became guilty of allowing Watford too much freedom on the ball at the start of the second half.

Today was not Matt Whichelow’s day as the striker wasted two good chances early in the second half to have put his side in front.

Rioch opted to shuffle his pack bringing on strikers Robert Ogleby and Callum Wilson in a bid to get a goal. However, the play was up the other end with City keeper Michael Quirke having to make two good saves either side of Whichelow shot being deflected over the bar.

With Jamie Greenway on to help sturdy the defence, City had the ball in the net in the 75th minute when Ogleby raced onto a through ball and with Bond not having full control of the ball, he dispossessed the custodian and tapped the ball into the empty. Referee Mr Earl thought Bond had been impeded and disallowed the goal.

A City attack seven minutes from time had the ball rebounding around the penalty area like a pinball machine but neither side could find the net and had to settle for a point.
