Coventry City U21's drew 2-2 in a lively game against Charlton.
Dave Hockaday was able to include Reda Johnson for a game which was switched to Ryton along with James Maddison who had played for 64 minutes against Ipswich Town on Monday night,

With former City youth team coach Colin Dobson, Tony Mowbray and Dominic Samuel on crutches watching on, Reda Johnson played in a back three with Ivor Lawton and Ryan Haynes.

They nearly conceded a goal in the fifth minute when Reice Charles-Cook came out and missed. Thankfully, Ahearne-Grant stroked the loose ball wide.

In the eleventh minute, City were denied a penalty when Sambou was taken down by Dillon Phillips.

City were awarded a corner instead and Aaron Phillips rifled in a shot which dipped just over the crossbar.

Ahearne-Grant fired over against a City side that was working well in midfield with Jack Finch doing well.

A mess of a free kick in the 23rd minute saw Charlton break but there was Charles-Cook to save with his legs.

The visitors won a corner in the 25th minute before Maddison was hacked down by Jack Munns. A card was surely required but referee Marc Perry took no action.

Reice Charles-Cook saved from Ahearne-Grant but in the 33rd minute, Karlan Ahearne-Grant was giving Charlton the lead when the South East London side were awarded a penalty when Al Bangura
arrived late and fouled from behind.

Munns was finally booked for another foul on Maddison. Haynes got down the right in the 38th minute and Conor Thomas got in a shot which was blocked and fell for Bangura to win a corner.

That was cleared and Mikhail Kennedy fired in to the side netting after a 41st minute move by City had broken down and Remmy Smith fired wide.

A minute before the break and City were level thanks to a great move which saw Conor Thomas crossing and Ryan Haynes ghosting in to volley powerfully into the net.

There was no Reda Johnson for the second half and Cian Harries, watched by a number of scouts, was sent on instead, to give City defence the speed it was missing,

Four minutes in and Charlton were back in front when Mikhail Kennedy got in on the right and scored with a low shot inside the area.

Two minutes later and City had a penalty when Regan Charles-Cook chopped down Maddison. The red card came out straight away and Kennedy was sent off. James Maddison stepped up to take the spot kick and sent Phillips the wrong way to make it 2-2.

Bangura shot well from a 57th minute corner for a City side that had Ivor Lawton in great form.

In the 62nd minute, James Maddison shook the hand of the referee and was replaced by a trialist who took up a role in the centre of midfield.

Bangura played one decent ball over to Haynes before fouling Jack Munns much to the disgust of Phillips who had spent much of the second half shouting at the referee to book City players for what in his opinion were not good tackles.

Phillips, threw a tantrum when delaying a 78th minute corner in an attempt to get a City player sent off but the referee was having none of it and sensibly calmed down the situation.

Two more corners followed for City who had Devon Kelly-Evans working hard and chasing everything.

With Charlton protesting, Lawton was harshly booked for what looked a good tackle from the sidelines near the end for a City side that showed plenty of promise in an entertaining draw.
