Coventry City U18's started off their league 2 campaign with a defeat to Ipswich Town.

City in their new home kit with black shorts, took on an Ipswich side all in orange.

Jonathan Ngandu had an early chance in the eighth minute which Hayes saved.

Addai dropped a free kick two minutes later but City cleared and Kyle Finn rifled wide before giving Hayes in the Ipswich goal some catching practice.
Finn, playing in a left wing role looked useful for a City side made up of first and second year players.

Ipswich won a corner in a game played at a good tempo on a warm day.
Finn had a 19th minute shot blocked and a minute later, Hendricks won a corner.

Chris Camwell, who had a fine game, won a corner that Leahy headed wide.

City kept pressing but on the half hour mark, Ipswich took the lead when the City defence stood and allowed Ben Morris to skip in and flick the ball past Corey Addai at the second attempt.

An injury to Harry Daly delayed play but when it resumed, City won a corner which had to be headed away, allowing Ipswich to break and win a corner forced Addai to dive to his left to save from Saladeen header.

Just over a minute into the second half and Ronee Hendricks had a great chance but with only Hayes to beat hesitated and the chance was gone.
Reece Ford put in a great tackle to concede a 49th minute corner that was cleared but Ipswich countered again and had a Ford header saved.

Then in the 52nd minute, City were made to pay for losing possession up front by an Ipswich side that broke down the right and crossed for Ben Morris to stroke home.

Hendricks flashed a shot wide in the 58th minute, but another attack broke down in the 62nd minute and Sam Ford was on hand to sweep past Addai.
Tom Bayliss got on the end of a good move but his 64th minute shot bounced off Hayes' left hand post.

Jason Farndon made two changes and they brought a goal as a 74th minute attack saw City break down the left and the ball come over for Lewis Green to lash into the far corner of the net from an acute angle.
Finn headed just over from a free kick and Addai made a great save in the 87th minute.

There was a minute left when Jak Hickman started and finished a move to reduce the arrears but in the third minute of stoppage time, James Blackfield swept home and City went down to defeat.
