Warwicks Avoiding Innings Defeat

Warwickshire County Cricket Club look to have avoided an innings defeat County Championship leaders Durham.

Durham were only allowed to make 100 runs to their over night total oof 173 thanks to three wickets from Boyd Rankin who removed top scorer Blenkenstein for 73 as well as Phil Mustard and Thorp.

With Durham all out for 273, some 138 runs ahead, Warwicks went into bat to try and save the match.

Skipper Ian Westwood again disappointed the travelling support when he was out for only two runs.

Ant Botha made 14 before he was caught by Thorp but Jim Troughton put in a splendid innings to reach fifty.

Tony Frost was out for four but Tim Ambrose helped Troughton with 39 runs before the wicket keeper was caught by Di Venuto.

Warwicks closed on 127-4, eleven runs behind. Jim Troughton was 55 not out.

In the deciding Ashes match at The Oval, Ian Bell and Jon Trott did well with the bat. Bell made 72 runs from 137 balls whilst Trott made 41 before he was run out. England closed on 307-8.
