Team GB Ice Hockey team head coach and Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson has confirmed that he has received a letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister David Cameron following his side’s heroic performances at the recent World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine.

Team GB defied the odds beating the host nation Ukraine, Poland, Estonia and Lithuania on the way to earning themselves a silver medal and in doing so improved their overall world rankings to 21, the highest rankings for Great Britain in over a decade

”It was a fantastic surprise” said Thompson “its not every day you open a letter from the Prime Minister. Its wonderful that he took the time to congratulate the whole team on a fantastic job that they all did whilst away in Kiev.

”It is also nice that the Prime Minister recognises the sport as a whole and I certainly take the opportunity of thanking him for taking the time and interest to write and congratulate us

”The letter was not just for me but for the whole organisation and I have circulated a copy to all the players, staff and Governing body we all played an equal part in moving the programme forward. What we now have to do is invest more time and money into developing our sport and the home grown players so that the next time Mr Cameron writes to us it is to congratulate us on a Gold medal”
