Coventry Jets Back Coventry Parentcraft Scheme

Last updated : 19 July 2010 By Covsupport News Service

The Coventry Jets have offered their backing to local community midwife Lisa Maycock and the Parentcraft scheme NAPPI. The Newborn Advice Pregnancy and Parenting Information Group, named by a young Coventry father, is based at St Augustine's Children's Centre, Heathcote Street, Radford and aims to offer support and guidance, throughout pregnancy and into the early days of becoming a parent, to teenagers.

The NAPPI is one of four groups in the city and has been running since February 2010 with a multi agency team and has received some funding from Coventry City Council.

"The classes are particularly important to teenagers hoping to improve their parenting skills and self esteem" stated Maycock. "The groups have a Midwife, a Children's Centre family support worker and a Connexions advisor. Between us at the group we also deal with benefit and housing issues." The Jets donated family tickets as one of the top prizes in a recent open day that was designed to improve awareness of the group.

The re-launch event was attended by approximately 40 teenage parents and parents to be on the 7th of July. "The family tickets to watch the Jets were much sort after as a top raffle prize and I am sure this contributed to the good attendance. The two delighted winners were Chelsea Rankin and Stacey Curry. It has been great to have such a first class organisation offering support to local groups".

Stacey and Chelsea's next opportunity to see the Jets in action will be on the 7th of August as Saturday Night Football comes to the Butts Park Arena. The Jets will be hosting the Sussex Thunder in a must win game that kicks off at 19:00. The meeting will be the club's third after Coventry swept the Crawley based team last year. The Jets' youth are also in action and will tackle the Nottingham Caesars at 15:00. Adult tickets are available for the double-header at £5 whilst Under 16s can get in for just £2. A family ticket is also available at a bargain price of £10 and covers two adults and up to 4 children.

If you're interested in the Parentcraft scheme there are three other groups across Coventry, Broad Horizons in Foleshill, Moat House Childrens Centre in Wood End and at Bell Green Children's Centre.
