Coventry has the facilities for Olympians in 2012 said Lord Sebastian Coe on a visit to Coventy yesterday.

The British Olympic Organising Committee Chairman was opening a gym in Canley along with Coventry Ambassador Of The Year Dave Moorcroft and told the CT: "Coming here to sell the Olympic Games is like preaching to the converted."

There are twelve venues in Coventry & Warwickshire all hoping to stage either Olympic events or training for the competitors. These include Coventry City's Ricoh Arena home and the Alan Higgs Centre which is used by City's Academy.

"The region with its world class facilities has the opportunity to attract teams during the Olympics," added Coe.

"It's not about attracting a little bit of transient trade, it's about giving local youngsters the chance to see how world class competitors train and compete to inspire and guide them."
