Cov Rugby Start With A Defeat

Coventry Rugby Club were beaten 37-13 in their first National League One game of the season by Ealing Trailfinders.

A crowd of 1026 at the Butts Park Arena saw Wheatcroft give the visitors the lead with a sixth minute penalty and then convert a a 15th minute Shires try.

Duggard ran in a try for Coventry in the 19th minute, converted by Hodgson, but tries from Hodgkinson and Thompson which Wheatcroft converted, had Ealing 22-7 up at the break.

Hodgson kicked a 43rd minute penalty but two minutes later, Bruynseels went up the other end to score.

Hodgson kicked his second penalty in the 58th minute. However, Ealing were too strong and Wheatcroft kicked a 78th minute penalty and in stoppage time, Chesters ran in for a try which Ward converted to condemn Coventry to a defeat.
