Coventry's Ice Hockey team at Newcastle report

Coventry Blaze needed penalties to beat Newcastle Vipers tonight

In front of a gate of around 1,000 including 70 Blaze fans at the Newcastle Metro Arena, It was first blood Coventry when Luke Fulghum scored on 3.13.

Newcastle levelled through Marle two minutes later and went in front thanks to a goal from Berry on 16.54.

However, twenty seconds before the end of the first period, Danny Stewart tied the game when he scored, assisted by Robinson and Chambers.

A very tight second period left it all square going into the third period. That finished without a goal and with both side taking a point, so the match went in to Over-Time.

That failed to split the teams, so penalties were required. Adam Calder went first and had his shot saved before Berry had his effort saved by Peter Hirsch. Fulghum and Petricko both had their penalties saved.

Greg Chambers scored his. Marhle stepped up and missed to give Blaze the victory on penalties.
