Coventry Blaze retained their place at the top of the Elite League with a 5-2 victory at Cardiff Devils tonight.

With face off at BBT delayed until 7.30pm, the 100 Blaze fans were forced to watch their side go a goal down on 3.53 when Max Birbraer made the most of Jon Weaver being off the ice for two minutes for hooking to put the Devils ahead.

But later in the half, the Blaze fans were chanting "Two shots, Two Goals" when Luke Fulghum netted on 14.11, assisted by Dan Carlson and Greg Chambers.

Then, forty four seconds of play later, Luke Fulghum hit the second with Jon Weaver and Greg Chambers assisting to see Coventry ahead at the end of the first.

Cardiff levelled on 36.22 through a shorthanded goal by Phil Hill but Blaze were back in front when Greg Owen netted on 39.47, assisted by Greg Chambers and Matt Soderstrom.

One incident left Jason Robinson saying to Referee Darnell: "somewhere a village is missing it's idiot!" but it was cheers alround when Luke Fulghum completed his hat-trick with a super, unassisted finish on 55.09.

This continued as Derek Campbell smashed home, assisted by Danny Stewart and Greg Owen on 56.28 to complete a 5-2 victory.

Tomorrow, Blaze take on second place Nottingham Panthers at the Sky Dome. Face off is at 6pm and tickets are still available.
