Defending Knock Out Cup Champions Coventry Blaze lost their first leg of the Knockout Cup Quarter-Final with a 5-1 defeat to Belfast Giants.

With Belfast having to use the Dundonald Ice Rink due to the unavailability of the Odessy, the Blaze took their time to get into the game.

They trailed to a 10.39 powerplay goal from Evan Cheverie and in the second period, they conceded three goals. Paul Deniset scored a short handed goal, 24 seconds in before Steve Thornton netted on a power play for the third goal.

It got worse for Paul Thompson's team in the third period when Mike Burgoyne netted on 45.09 and two minutes later,  Evan Cheverie hit a fifth for the Giants.

On 52.25, Dan Carlson scored a consolation goal for the Blaze who have home advantage tomorrow night but a four goal hurdle to overcome.

Coventry Blaze have announced that on Saturday January 24th, they will be at home to Manchester Phoenix not Hull Stingrays and on Sunday February 8th, the Blaze will play Cardiff Devils.
