Bees set Elite League Record

At play-off rivals Poole Pirates Wimborne road home last night the Coventry Bees recorded a 49-43 league win that not only bagged a further 3 points (the 2 match points plus the bonus) in their quest for a top 2 league finish, but also set new records in the process.
The win was the Bees 7th consecutive away win, and their 14th straight win in the Elite League which is a new league record.

The match started off very close with the score after the 6th heat seeing coventry ahead by just one point!
However the next 3 heats saw the Bees pull out a 9 point lead but the real drama was left until very late in the meeting.
A Bees heat 4-2 win in heat 13, where Scott Nicholls led home Jason Crump, increased the overall lead to 11 points and allowed the Poole management to use the tactical ride facility as they were more than 10 points in arrears. Poole's Craig Boyce was nominated for this and having scored zero points up to this point, and up against Bees Steve Johnston who has already bagged 2 heat wins, it seemed to be a last throw of the dice.

However those dice are very likely to be kept hold of for special occasions as the Poole pairing led the way from the start and with Boyce crossing the line first a maximum 8-1 reduced the deficit to 4 points with the final race to go. A drawn heat would tie the match.

With Scott and Bomber against Crump and Pedersen the stage was set, and despite initially making the start, the Bees pairing made the most of a mistake by Pedersen to fill the 2nd and 3rd places. Scott then set after Crump passing him to take the win whilst Bomber ensured that 3rd place gave Bees the heat and match victory.
Both Scott and Bomber top scored for the Bees with 12 points each from their 5 rides.

The Bees travel to Ipswich tonight on a high aiming to record another win that would push the records set last night out a little more. More importantly is the push for a top 2 finish and the upcoming match on monday against swindon may well determine who finishes top.
