All The Best Nev

Covsupport would like to wish Neville Hadsley all the best following the announcement that he is stepping down as Editor of Gary Mabbutts Knee Fanzine and GMKonline.

GMK started life in a Bradford flat in 1997 and like all the City fanzine’s, it took

time to get established with Nev getting used to the constant “Is that the programme” comments from City supporters which is a bane of a fanzine sellers life.

By 1999, Nev had been approached by Rivals to run a web-site. As Nev will tell you himself, he is a printed word man, something that provides him with employment and the internet was something totally alien to him.

However, Nev took this as a challenge and produced a web-site which now gets around one and a half million unique hit’s a year. GMK often provokes controversy and was a main supporter of the single issue campaign group “Save Our City” which helped to ensure Bryan Richardson’s ousting as Coventry City Chairman. However, six days after the coup in January 2001, Nev along with Kev Monks was meeting Mike McGinnity and Graham Hover to revive supporter/club relations which at that point had sunk to an all time low.

GMK were also backers of the Association of Coventry City Supporters Clubs And Groups and were involved at the first mutings of a Sky Blue Trust which saw Nigel Eccles who has taken over the running of the web-site charged with setting up the Trust.

Nev continued with the fanzine and website despite the threat of legal action by Mike McGinnity but decided with the club’s move to the Arena that the time was right to step down and let Joe Rukin take over the fanzine.

We look forward to seeing Nev at matches and thank him for his friendship and support.
