COVENTRY CITY U18'S 1-0 MK DONS U18'S BY KEV MONKS
It took a late penalty for Coventry City U18's to overcome MK Dons at the Alan Higgs Centre.

In a game which only went ahead after the fog lifted, Lee Hildreth crashed a header from inside the six yard box against the crossbar in the eight minute.

With Andy Gooding who had been on international duty with England U18's in Turkey in midweek, ensuring that City controlled the midfield, left back
Adam Layfield was able to push forward against a Dons side who could not muster one effort on Cameron Belford's goal in the opening half.

This kept Dons keeper Ryan Flood busy dealing with efforts by McCrink,Sidhu and left winger Tobi Obadeyi. Flood made one excellent save in the 35th minute when he got down to an
Andy Gooding low drive and then recovered to get a hand to thwart Paul McCrink as he raced in and deflect the ball for a covering defender to clear for a corner.

Four minutes later, Flood was cautioned by referee Paul Chislett when he pulled down Vijay Sidhu on the edge of the area. City appealed for a penalty but Mr Chislett firmly stated that it was outside and gave a free kick. Andy Gooding took this and his low drive was back-heeled by Rikki Bains and hacked off the line for another corner.

Vijay Sidhu limped off in the 51st minute before Adam Layfield was cautioned for a late tackle.

Ange Lorougnon who had come on for Sidhu made a darting run through the Dons defence but at the last moment he sliced this 59th minute chance wide.

Adam Layfield who had been in excellent form both for the U18's and the reserves in their last game at Southampton was forced off in the 70th minute when he was clattered by Dean Lovegrove. The MK Dons number eleven only received a caution whilst Layfield was taken off with ankle damage which is expected to keep him out for two weeks.

City did get the ball in the net in the 78th minute when a Duggan shot was spilled by Flood and Lorougnon pounced to bundle the ball and the keeper over the line.

This was ruled out but six minutes later, Brian Borrows side did have the victory they deserved
when a shot inside the penalty area was handled by James Nash. The Dons left back was booked and Andy Gooding stepped up to dispatch the penalty into the
back of the net in a confident manner. Sam Page protested the decision and was cautioned.
