David Zabriskie won the 7th Amgen Tour Of California Fifth Stage today.
After four wins for Peter Sagan, stage five was an individual 29.7kms time trial to and from Bakersfield, which also staged a women's and amateur time trials..
Temperatures of 90oc greeted the riders on the road and setting the early pace was former World Time Trial Champion Bert Grabsch who finished in a time of 38.10.
First Martin Tallingi went quicker then Radio Shack's Jens Voigt flew home in a time of 36.22, some 29 seconds quicker. Then Captain America David Zabriskie, to huge cheers from the home crowds went through in 35.59 to take the lead.
The riders continued down the ramp at one minute intervals with race leader Peter Sagan the last to go at 15.12 local time.
Sagan could not beat Zabriskie's time finishing 56th and conceded not only the stage but the leader's jersey.
Zabriskie now leads the race from Teejay Van Gaarteren.
Stage Six is from Palmdale to Big Bear Lake
