Twenty five kilometres later, the gap had gone out to ten minutes and six seconds and with 35kms to go, their lead at the front was 12.25.

With three kilometres to go, Io Izagirre (Euskaltel-Euskadi) went away and had a fourteen second lead inside the final kilometre.

Some seven and a half minutes later, Stefano Perazzi attacked out of a group of 30 riders followed by Flecha of Team Sky and they finished 8.54 down on Izagirre the stage winner.
