Evans Wins Giro Del Trentino Third Stage

Former Tour De France winner Cadel Evans rode himself into the lead of the Giro Del Trentino with victory on the third stage.

A 184.4km stage from Mori to Roncone saw the BMC rider leadng going into the third stage which started without Ferrari, Sabatini, Formolo & Viviani and saw everyone together for the first forty kilometres.

There was a break eight kilometres later and Zeitz, Malori, Caruso, Cataldo, Rosa, Carlos Quintero, Piedra, Taciak, Pardilla, Monsalve and Pimienta.formed it with Pagini managing to bridge to the leaders who had a 4.36 lead after 76kms.

Into the last forty kilometres and there was only seven riders in Zeits, Caruso, Cataldo, Rosa, Quintero, Pardilla & Monsalve now in front trying to defend a lead of three minutes.

BMC, Astana and AG2R started to work together, reducing the group of escapers down to just Caruso, Taciak, Monsalve and Piedra for the final ten kilometres with a lead of 1.26 on the peloton.

On the base of the final climb for the hilltop finish at Pozza di Roncone, the escapers were brought to heel and Team Sky hit the front.

However, as the gradients started to ramp up to 15%, the climbers started to come forward and under the flam rouge first was the race leader in Cadel Evans and AG2R's Domenico Pozzovivo.

Francesco Manuel Bongiorno of Bardiani-CSF and Astana duo Michele Scarponi and Mikel Landa, joined Pozzovivo and Cadel Evans who kicked with two hundred metres to go and won in 4.43.43, some three seconds ahead of Pozzovivo, Landa, Scarponi and Movistar's Igor Anton who came in twenty seconds down on the time of Cadel Evans, who now leads the race with a forty five second lead over Pozzovivo.
