The 2014 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic has been upgraded in category following a successful first running.

The 2013 race won by FDJ's Arnaud Demare, attracted a strong field and the 2014 race which starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finishes on The Mall in London on August 10th, should attract an even stronger field after it was upgraded by Cycling Union bosses UCI to a 'hors catégorie'.

This upgrade will mean the race is worth more UCI ranking points and can offer a bigger prize fund.

However, race organisers Sweet Spot were unsuccessful in getting the Tour Of Britain recently won by Sir Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky, with British Champion Mark Cavendish taking three stages, upgraded and the race will remain in a 2.1 category.
