BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 2-2 COVENTRY CITY BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City remain without an away league win after a 2-2 draw at Brighton

City's third visit to the Withdean Stadium and for the third season running, the weather in Sussex By The Sea was again glorious, something we were grateful for as there is no cover over the temporary seats which accommodated the 756 City supporters.

On his former stomping ground,Micky Adams who received a good ovation from the home support, brought back Robert Page and Stephen Hughes.

In the fifth minute,Dele Adebola charged the Brighton defence, slipped the ball inside for McSheffrey who squared for James Scowcroft to fire wide from six yards.

Four minutes later,Adebola had another go,bearing down on goal only for former Southampton keeper Alan Blayney to save with his feet for a corner. Albion twice cleared the danger up the field for Knight to flick a header which Bywater easily saved.

With the Sky Blues trying to walk the ball into the net, they won a 19th minute free kick. From twenty two yards,Stephen Hughes thundered a free kick which was deflected for a corner.

The home side who are still trying to persuade Falmer Council to let them build a stadium, won three corners before the half-hour mark and raised the tempo forcing two corners with another good save from Bywater.
Then in the 38th minute, City broke through McSheffrey who won a corner. Hughes took the kick which was cleared back to Hughes who sent the ball back in where Paul McShane was stood. The ball hit his legs and went into the net to give City the lead.

Andy Whing headed off the line as City went in the break ahead.

Straight after the restart,Robert Page headed wide.

In the 49th minute, the game came to life with both sides scoring. Brighton were level when Albert Jarrett delivered a long cross to the far post. The ball hit the post and Leon Knight was on hand to tap in from close range.

City went straight up the end. Hughes sent over a cross and Claus Jorgensen's header
from close range flew past Alan Blayney.

Four minutes later,Seagulls sub Colin Kazim-Richards who had only just come on,nipped past Marcus Hall and slipped the ball past the routed to the spot Stephen Bywater to tie the game.

Stephen Hughes was cautioned. He had committed a late tackle but made it worse by trying to talk to referee Grant Hegley about it.

It was a case of get into block for the Sky Blues defence as Leon Knight, started to make a nuisance of himself.

Paul Watson who is the first amateur player for City in years, due to the fact that City cannot afford to pay him or Andy Impey who was also signed on a non-contract basis, was introduced for Richard Duffy and slotted in well as Coventry went to three at the back.

Now,yet again this was another opportunity to beat a not very good Brighton side, but right up until the final whistle,City persisted in trying to walk the ball into the net and can look on this as two dropped points
