Coventry City crashed to a first defeat at the Arena with a 2-0 defeat to Hull City.

In what was the first visit by Hull to Coventry for a league game since 1966,Micky Adams gave home debuts for Paul Watson and Andy Impey.

The Sky Blues were straight on the attack. With just over two minutes of Iain WIlliamson's whistle,Dele Adebola turned his marker and fired a couple of feet wide

A minute later and a daisy cutter from Michael Doyle from thirty yards skidded across the turf, hit the post and was pushed away for a corner.

Two more corners followed but when Peter Taylor's side won their first corner of the game, they scored from it.

Chris Brown who had looked offside rifled in a shot which Stephen Bywater saved with his feet. This brought a corner. The ball was cleared out to John Welsh who from ten yards drilled a shot which took a deflection off Richard Duffy and crept into the bottom far corner.

Hull went close in the 29th minute, through a over head kick from Fagan with a 25 yard Hughes free kick was saved by Tigers keeper Myhill.

The tall Hull keeper grabbed a McSheffrey side footer at the second attempt and saved with his feet also from McSheffrey just before half-time,whilst the visitors who were relying on the counter-attack fired wide through a Brown breakaway.

City were booed at the break and came out for the second half on the attack winning two corners.

A third corner came after Nicky Barmby had booked for clattering Claus Jorgensen and two shouts for handball. When Hughes flag-kick came over,Dele Adebola got his head to the ball and nodded against the rebound.

In the 64th minute,Micky Adams went for a double substitution with Doyler and Jorgensen replaced by Andy Morrell and Wilo Flood who has extended his loan for another month.

A Coventry corner followed a Watson cross being headed onto the bar. The ball eventually came back in and again Adebola rose to head against the upright.

Hull had just taken off Nicky Barmby when they were to play the last twenty minutes with ten men after Mark Lynch was sent off.

Not that it mattered as in the 73rd minute,a stunning curler from John Welsh flew past Bywater into the net.

Some City fans headed for the exits whilst City won two corners. With five minutes to go,Liam Davis was given a home debut but it was too late to have an effect on the result.
