CITY SUPPORT
For the first league game at Scunthorpe, there was an excellent turn out of 886 City supporters, many taking in a new ground. Most of the tickets of a meagre allocation were sold and travellers from London,Gloucester,Brighton and Kent joined those from Cov and the out of towners.
_____________
GROUND
Very easy to find and exactly the same as the Bescot when it opened and the Deva Stadium. Plenty of food places outside the ground, one pub or a two mile walk in to Scunthorpe's town centre.

Scunthorpe have planning permission for a new stadium due before their local council next month.
_______________

A shoddy Coventry City again badly let down their travelling support with a 2-1 defeat at bottom side Scunthorpe. United.

We'd travelled to a windy Glanford Park in numbers and good spirit, despite the midweek loss at Burnley for the first ever league away at Scunthorpe.

Our presence ensured an FA Cup tie like atmosphere but all we got was a a not very good pub team performance from players who clearly cannot play consistently as a team.

Scunthorpe were bottom of the league at the start of play and the Irons took the lead in the 14th minute.

Ben May fed Martin Paterson. With the City players standing off, the forward picked his spot from around twenty five yards out with a sublime shot that curled into the far bottom corner of the net.

Playing one man up front is never likely to get you goals but in the 20th minute,a push on Kevin Thornton brought a penalty. The midfielder got up to take the kick and sent the keeper Murphy the wrong way before racing towards the City support behind the goal.

Thornton was cautioned for this gesture from the West Midlands based referee who last season was refereeing reserve team games.

Card happy,he was. Danny Fox saw yellow and later,Leon Best and Issac Osbourne joined him.

Blaming the ref is too easy, the real problem was the Sky Blues penchant for giving away possession, not getting to the second ball and being clueless when going forward.

Andy Marshall looked dodgy under pressure. Although he made a good stop in the 25th minute but four minutes later,a poor punch forced Jay Tabb to clear off the line.

With Mifsud and Best ineffective, Julian Gray invisible, things were no better in the second half.

The tactic of trying to walk the ball into the net was not going down well and by the hour mark, sections of the City support were turning on their own players.

The abuse got worse in the 65th minute when Scunthorpe got what proved to be the winner.

Jack Cork, the son of former City Reserve team boss Alan Cork, got down the right byline. From a very acute angle,he drove a shot which we thought was going out for a goal kick. However, with Marshall well beaten the ball sailed over him and into the net at the far top post.

Chris Coleman, whose body language during the game suggested that he was no miracle worker and at times appeared aggitated rather than passionate with plenty of shoulder shrugging, sent on Wayne Andrews and Robbie Simpson.

A stoppage time corner sent even Andy Marshall forward but that was cleared and only a great tackle stopped Scunthorpe adding a third.

When the whistle did go, the City support left the team and board in no doubt that this defeat was not acceptable.

"Chants of "We're Sh*t and We're Sick Of It" and a very loud one of "What A Load Of Rubbish" were aired as the players trooped off, some not bothered whilst other claimed they had at least tried.

Fingers crossed, back sides will be kicked and with little in the reserves to come in,better players will have to be brought in on loan. If not,it looks a very uncomfortable run in to the end of the season.
