Coventry City sent a new club record with an eleventh away league victory with a 2-1 victory at Scunthorpe United.

In an event not bothered about by most of the national media, City unveiled the fourth person to take charge of the first team this season.

Pressley, whose three and a half year deal for someone who report to be keen and hungry to progress in the game looks generous to say the least, read the script well, saying the right things but the proof of how good a manager will be, comes from the results that the teams under his charge attain.

For his first game in charge, which came on a damp, wet day at Scunthorpe United's Glanford Park Stadium where there was a number of pitch inspections, his first team line up was pretty much as expected.

Joe Murphy against his former club was involved straight away saving from Hawley and then Canavan.

In the seventh minute, City went a goal down when a Nolan cross was met by the head of Akpo Sodje

The 723 City fans were livid at such a poor start which was nearly two when Hawley hit the post three minutes later.

That was pretty much it for Scunthorpe and City, when they had gathered their composure, started to take control of the game.

Dickinson fired wide before City in their best spell of pressure won a 20th minute corner. Jamie Bailey volleyed over five minutes later and City won a corner.

Christie gave away a corner which did not go down well but it was cleared and Moussa, who had a fine game, went down the other end and fired just wide.

Steve Jennings, who also worked hard, fired over and then in stoppage time, City got a corner, there was a couple of scrambles and Carl Baker fired in a shot which went in off a deflection.

Letting a load of kids play on the pitch at half time ensured that the pitch was churned up for the second half, which like the first half was played in the pouring rain.

Carl Dickinson had City's first chance four minutes into the second half and McSheffrey fired at the giant that is Eirik Johansen seven minutes later.

City were controlling the play and Leon Clarke had a headed goal ruled out for offside on the hour mark.

The pressure from the Sky Blues continued and in the 76th minute McSheffrey crossed from and Leon Clarke came in with a cracking header which flew into the net.

Correctly, Clarke, who had a great ovation when his name was announced, did not celebrate, but the City support did.

Murphy made a great save from Ryan late on diving to his left to push away before City and their supporters were able to enjoy a record eleventh away win.
