Exeter City boss Paul Tidsdale said his side were well beaten as they went down to a 2-0 defeat to Coventry City which knocked them off the top of the League Two table.

Tidsdale told Devon Live: "We were well beaten today - we had a poor day and played a good team on a good day.

"I wasn't pleased with us in the first half, I have to say, I think they were the better side in the first half, so I think the shift was already there.

"It can't help, your captain going off, of course, but it was a bad day for us. We weren't good in any department and you have to put some of that as credit to the opposition, who played well, but we didn't particularly do well in any area today.

"I think we tried hard but I expect that as an absolute given every week - it's not about trying hard and wanting to do well, that happens every week, we just didn't do the things we had to do anywhere near well enough.

"We were so, so far off our standard today in all aspects and some of that may be down to your opponent."
