COVENTRY CITY U18's 2-1 CARDIFF CITY U18's BY KEV MONKS

Coventry City U18's got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Cardiff City.

Originally this game was down to have been played at Cardiff but a midweek change meant the game was moved to the Alan Higgs Centre.

Brian Borrows welcomed back striker Reis Ashraf who recovered from a knock in training which kept him out of the Stourbridge game.

With Iain Dowie and Frankie Bunn amongst a good crowd,it was not until the 32nd minute of a tight first half that everyone had something to talk about.

This conversation topic was the first goal which came courtesy of Matt West who slammed home after Ashraf had retrieved a ball which had been spilled by the keeper.

Two minutes after the goal,City doubled their lead when a Fitzharris free kick from twenty five yards out was put away by Jermaine Grandison from close range.

Dowie and Bunn left at the break and missed Cardiff pull one back through substitute Mark Jones from a penalty conceded by Kieran Fitzharris who was replaced straight after.

Gary Twose's side were denied another penalty three minutes. It looked like Cardiff were starting to get a grip on the game but composure was soon regained with keeper Neil Collett sending a long ranger just over and Grandison having a header pushed over.

Cardiff who were well marshalled in defence, could not match that up front and Coventry City U18's were able to enjoy a rare victory.
