Up The Championship We Go

Coventry City moved up to 18th in the Championship table after their 1-0 home win against Norwich City this afternoon.

The bottom three is unchanged with third from bottom Sheffield Wedesday beating QPR 2-1. Scunthorpe lost 2-0 at Hull City and bottom club Colchester lost 2-1 at Crystal Palace.

Stern John scored for Southampton in a 2-2 draw at Blackpool. The Saints are now in 20th place. Leicester drew 0-0 with leaders Bristol City and slipped to fourth from bottom.

Barnsley were in FA Cup action and are down to 19th with Coventry City 18th.

Not that dropping a couple of league places will bother Barnsley tonight, after the Tykes,including Luke Steele, made it to the FA Cup semi-final with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Oakwell. Odebayi scored the only goal of the game with a 66th minute header.

Also in the FA Cup, Portsmouth won 1-0 at Manchester United. It was their first win at Old Trafford for over 50 years and came thanks for a penalty which saw substitute keeper Thomas Kuszczak sent off and Muntari slot home the resulting penalty with Rio Ferdinand in goal.

Championship West Brom and Cardiff both play tomorrow.

In League One, Swansea beaten at home by Millwall last night top the division with Doncaster in second place. Carlisle, Forest,Walsall and Southend occupy the play off spots tonight.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough won 2-1 at Harrogate.

David Stone scored for Rugby Town in a 2-1 home defeat by Hemel Hempsted. In the Southern League Midland Division, Leamington lost 4-2 at home to Chasetown. Blake and Husband scored to take the game back to 2-2 but the Staffordshire side known for their FA Cup exploits, netted twice in the final minutes.

Atherstone won at Studley to keep their lead at the top of the Midland Alliance.

Massey Ferguson lost 1-0 to Knowle in the Endsleigh Challenge Cup Fourth Round. In the Midland Combination Premier Division, all our sides lost. Coventry Copsewood and Nuneaton Griff suffered 4-1 losses with Southam losing 3-1.
