Thorn determined to make amends for poor start

After the debacle on Tuesday night when Coventry City went out of the Carling Cup at the first hurdle for the third year running, the City boss Andy Thorn has moved to reassure fans that the team spirit is still high and that he is determined to make sure his players perform to their best ability at St Andrews on Saturday.

Thorn made his displeasure known after watching his side take the lead at Bury, but go on to lose 3-1 in a woeful, unacceptably bad performance.

Thorn is now preparing his side for the short trip to Birmingham City determined to get a result and he is confident that his players have learnt form their Tuesday night humiliation.

He said, “The lads don’t need me to tell them that they didn’t do themselves justice, but there’s nothing wrong with their spirit."

Thorn explained why he made a half time substitution when he replaced Richard Wood, citing the attitude of the team spirit and  their strength of will.

He said, “Richard Wood did his thigh in the first half but he was desperate to carry on. I had to insist we made the change which is just as well because he could hardly move by the time we left and it looks as if he could have a tear."

“That sort of attitude helps keep you going when times are tough and we’ll stick at it and carry on working as hard as we can. I just hope the supporters understand that and will stay with us because I really do care what happens to this club.”

There is a risk that the game may be postponed on police advice after the recent nationwide rioting. The police meet later today and will make a decision either later today or tomorrow on whether to allow the game to go ahead.
