The Revenue Is Nice - Ranson

Coventry City Chairman Ray Ranson has welcomed the extra revenue that City's FA Cup run has brought in so far.

The Sky Blues stand to make around £800,000 in gate receipts from tomorrow's Sixth Round game against Chelsea, plus get £275,000 for ITV1 showing the game as well as £9k a time for any radio broadcasters who want to provide live commentary.

If City win the match, they will collect £400,000 from the FA Prize Fund and then be guaranteed a minimum of £500,000 for reaching the Semi-Final, rising to £1m if they win it.

"The revenue's nice," said Ray Ranson to the CT. "We don't have any debts but the club is still losing money so that will go some way towards helping on that front.

"And it's a lot more that we expected; I think we probably budgeted £20,000 for losing away to Altrincham or something like that.

"But although I know it sounds a bit corny, I genuinely believe that it's all about the supporters - it's a fantastic occasion for them and a welcome distraction for the players.

"It's going to be a full house and we could have sold 40 or 50,000 tickets for the game. There are going to be lots of people here who have never been to the Ricoh before, so let's hope that we can put a show on for them so they come back."
