Strength In Depth Required - Coleman

Coventry City manager Chris Coleman has said that he is looking for strength in depth from his Sky Blues squad.

"We have said before, we have got a young squad and if you look at the bench it is even younger and it is not fair on those boys," said Coleman to the CT when asked about loan players.

"We need a bit more strength in depth and to push the boys we have got to get the consistency we are looking for.

"The only way we are going to stay in the top ten is with consistency and we actually played quite well for a lot of the time at Preston. If I showed you the stats you would not believe them - but we didn't win and that's the mental toughness that I am talking about that we haven't got enough of.

"But maybe with a bit more thickness to the squad and bringing in a bit more experience - albeit the player we are looking at is still young himself, but he still has more experience than most of our young players.

"People are always saying, 'Why don't you get players on loan from the Premier League?'

"But a), you can't always afford them and b) they may not have been playing for their respective clubs so they are lacking match fitness and when they come to you it is going to take them three or four games until they are on it.

"And if they are only coming for three months, that's nearly half of the time because they will only play ten or twelve games over the three months,so they are playing catch up with their fitness anyway."
