Sports Minister To Open Arena

Sports Minister Richard Caborn will officially open the Ricoh Arena along with Dame Kelly Holmes, some eighteen months after it first opened for business.

The ceremony at the Arena will take place at half-time of a game between Coventry City Ladies and a Ricoh All Stars which kicks off at 10.55. England international Rachel Yankey who is currently playing for Arsenal after spells at Fulham and Birmingham City will also be in attendance.

The ceremony,match and other events including a large scale Earthworks performance,Kombat Breakers,King Henry V111 School Jazz Band, a Gospel Choir and Coventry School Of Samba, has been entitled Made In Coventry and is free from 10.30am until 5pm on Saturday February 24th, the same day, the Sky Blues who are the biggest tenant of the Ricoh Arena travel to Norwich City for a Championship fixture.

The evening will end with a concert given by singer Beverley Knight for which admission prices are charged and tickets available from the Ticket Office priced £15 (£10 for students).

The event has attracted the best players in female football in the UK so those coming to watch should see a really great game. It's a free event and so we hope we can beat out last attendance record of 1,100 set last December. It's going to be a huge thrill for the young players who will be involved as mascots and ball girls too who will also have the chance to meet the England Internationals and Dame Kelly"
