Signs Of Sky Blue Hope

Signs of hope concerning the future of Coventry City are now starting to appear.

Ok, the news about some staff possibly being made redundant is worrying especially for those employed by the club but that can be said for many businesses up and down the country in these times of austerity and double dip recessions. However, other things have happened which lead you to believe that that the light at the end of the Sky Blue tunnel is not that of an on-coming train.

Firstly, we have had the news that City are talking to players. The club has been in talks with Richard Keogh, whom every City supporter we are sure wants to stop and Martin Cranie, who is seen by many as a player who could do a job in helping us back to the Championship, and there would be no point in wasting everyone’s time with discussions if the club was heading for liquidation.

Then, came the news that City are turning down bids for players. Again, if the club were that desperate for cash, the offer from Cardiff City of £800k for Richard Keogh would have been immediately accepted rather than rejected.

This was followed by the news today that City are now bidding for players with a bid sent in to Manchester United for Oliver Norwood.

To me, the Football League’s Annual General Meeting last week was another positive sign, even if voting for seven substitutes was like turkeys voting for Christmas.

At the AGM, teams are accepted into and demoted from the league structure and as there has been nothing about City being thrown out of the League, the club must have satisfied the Football League in some way that we will complete our fixtures.

Granted that there is still much to do and getting the transfer embargo lifted is the biggest priority and to many, far more important than getting a share in the Ricoh Arena but at last, things on the Sky Blue front are starting to look more positive.
