Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said that you won't see the best of his side for a few weeks.

“I thought it was an encouraging performance,” said the City manager after the 2-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe United to the Coventry Telegraph, “but I still think that you won’t see the best of us for a few weeks yet.

“We are not physically at our maximum yet. You can see it.

“One or two, not everyone, were visibly tired.

“We got to 75 minutes and I knew we were going to have to make changes.

“And at 1-1 it was difficult but I tried to give us fresh legs and momentum and it almost paid off.

“From our point of view, both goals were poor. Staying with runners is all it was and the finish was fine from them, but two disappointing goals.

“But we created a lot of chances and their keeper has made an absolutely point blank save at the end to keep it at 2-1.

“We hit the post a couple of times and everyone at the game today can see the chances we created and the quality of football we played for most of that game.

“I think it’s a harsh reality that we have come away with no points from that game but there are some encouraging signs.

“We move on to the next one and have another week to try to get ourselves up to top speed.

“I don’t think there was too much wrong, I honestly don’t.

“I think we have played some really good stuff and they were under the cosh and if we’d have got the second goal when we were well on top it could have ended up 4-0 to us. But we just weren’t ruthless enough in taking those chances.

“I honestly think that will come. That sharpness and mentality is just a case of a little bit more work on the training ground for everyone and we won’t be far away.

“So it was a disappointing result to start with but a lot of encouraging signs there.

“We need to get some more work into their legs but that’s just the circumstances at this moment in time. There’s plenty of work to do and plenty of things to work on, I think.”

Robins refuses to be too disheartened, saying: “It was a brilliant free-kick from Tony Andreu and it’s a real shame we didn’t get anything from the game because I don’t think we deserved to come away with nothing.

“We contributed to a reasonable game.

“Scunthorpe have been a bogey team for Coventry for some time and I am really disappointed with the result but I am not going to be down beat.

“I know we are a few weeks from hitting top gear and I have to make sure we pick up results along the way.”
