COVENTRY CITY RESERVES 1-0 MK DONS BY KEV MONKS
A single goal from Craig Reid was enough to give City Reserves a win over Milton Keynes Dons.
Alan Cork kept faith with most of the team that had won at Portsmouth last Wednesday and gave outings to Clayton Ince,Andy Impey,Matt Heath and Andy Morrell.
Luke Webb had the first chance for City in this reserve team friendly at Ryton, firing over with a right footed volley in the sixth minute and then sent a twenty five yard over some nine minutes later.
The Sky Blues were able to put together some neat touches along with some crisp passing.throughout the game and in the 19th minute, Ryan Lynch who started on the left wing, tearing down the left and sending over a cross at the far post for Craig Reid to strike against the keepers feet.
Despite the Dons fielding a reasonably strength side, City with midfield dynamo Kevin Thornton and Luke Webb pulling the strings continued to press.
In the 27th minute, Thornton picked out Reid, who showed a good first touch to be able to get in a ten yard shot whilst marked by two defenders to force the Dons keeper into a save.
Another run by Lynch in the 33rd minute led to a free kick. Webb took the kick which was initially cleared back to Webb who centred for Stuart Wall to fire straight at the keeper.
Three minutes later, Lynch played a neat one two with Reid to win a corner. Webb's shot was blocked and fell for Thornton inside the area to rifle a shot which was cleared off the line by the Dons number 2.
Just before the break,Craig Reid found his path to goal twice blocked. The first produced a good save from the Dons custodian with the second being blocked by a defender for a corner.
Thornton showed his versatility seven minutes after the restart, weaving his way through the home defence only to fire straight at the keeper
Craig Reid had curled wide from a Lynch cross in the 54th minute and five minutes later, the Coventry born striker had given City the lead.
Lynch who had been switched to his normal left back position, did well to knock the ball forward to Liam Davis who beat one defender and sent the ball back from the byline. Aza Ogarro met the ball on the edge of the arc on the edge of the penalty area. His shot deflected off a defender. It looked to be going out of play but Craig Reid was able to get his face to the ball and steer it past the wrong footed keeper and into the net.
City continued to play the ball around nicely but kept falling foul of the Dons offside trap frustrating Andy Morrell who displayed some neat touches.
Craig Reid had two attempts in the 63rd minute whilst Stuart Wall made a lovely diving header to concede a 78th minute corner which was easily dealt with by a highly capable defence.
Ten minutes from time, the substitute Dons keeper had to parry a twenty five yarder from Ogarro as City who face Norwich City in a league game next Tuesday at Rugby Town finished the game strongly.
