Martin Cranie is hoping that his move from Portsmouth to Coventry City and the chance to play regular football will boost his chance of playing for the full England team.

The central defender is too old to play for England U21's and Cranie said to the CT: "Sweden was my last tournament with the Under-21s. "I am too old now but I have had a good run and enjoyed the summer when we were unlucky to lose in the final, but I had a good time with the lads.

"It was a great experience and a great thing to have on your CV and I was very lucky because I wasn't playing regular football at the time but I seemed to keep getting a regular game at Under-21 level.

"All the way through my career I have never really had a settled club and played week in, week out, but I have come to a good club and hopefully I can settle down and play every week and I would love to be recognised by the senior squad.

"A few of the lads have already progressed through from the 21s into the senior squad and been called a few times but they are lads who are playing regular football for their clubs.

"So that's all I can do at the minute, get my head down at Coventry and play as many games as I can and hopefully impress.

"I have had a few loan spells where I have played week in, week out but now I have signed a three-year deal I am hoping to be a regular part of the side and hopefully achieve good things."
