The Football Association have ratified a ban on all professional players in English football from betting on any matches anywhere in the world from next season.

The decision was confirmed at the Football Association's AGM today and the ban applies to any player in the top eight tiers of the English league system, which is down to the level that Stratford Town and Bedworth United play at.

The rule replaces the current rules which only prevent players from betting on matches in which the team they play for is involved and means that players will also be banned from passing on information to a third party who uses that information for betting.
