According to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Coventry City have been linked with a loan move for Sunderland's Matt Piper. The winger, formerly with Leicester City, has suffered a number of injuries and had an ankle ligament operation in the summer.

Mackems boss Mick McCarthy has said that Piper can go on loan to get match fitness and a spell at the Arena may be just the tonic Piper needs.
Said Piper who has made 29 appearances for the Stadium of Light based club: "I cannot join another Premiership club on loan but I want to play at the highest level I can, which means the Championship. "If a club came along and gave me the chance to prove myself then I would be interested."
